LECTURES

Week 1 | Introduction & Briefing
The first week of class, we were briefed about the tasks of  Illustration and Visual Narrative. We were required to learn how to open an e-portfolio on blogspot for semester 1.

Module Information Booklet (MIB)

COMPOSITION THEORY 1 | VISUAL TYPES AND SHOTS

The meaning of composition in design is the arrangement of the elements in our visual. We learn to compose our own objects inside the frame, by simply arranging them to our liking.

We were taught about character basics and designing them, how to create iconic, simplistic and unique characters by using design principles.

Week 1 | Introduction & Briefing
The first week of class, we were briefed about the tasks of  Illustration and Visual Narrative. We were required to learn how to open an e-portfolio on blogspot for semester 1. We learned how to operate illustrator as the lecturer taught and helped us with anything we would like to know. He gave a a lot of resources to learn from online.

Vormator Challenge | WEEK 2

Initial Planning
I was always attached with the tentacle type of monsters as it gives me the feeling of threatening aura. Like the original, the Kraken, it gives me the evil menacing ambience in a classic underwater thriller movie. Combining with the alien-like appearance, it gives a mysterious yet intriguing shape to the character created.

Lab 2: Chiaroscuro - Pear | WEEK 3

Drawing in chiaroscuro  /kɪˌɑːrəˈsk(j)ʊərəʊ/

The lines we draw in an average illustration do not exist in reality, they are only there for us to define on paper the space that the objects take up the lines, for them to occupy. By constantly improving my skills, it will allow me to place every item where and how I want it to be.

💡 Things that I learned:

  • Pathfinder
  • Shape Builder
  • Knife Tool
Applying what we've learnt in Illustrator, there are six blending modes : Normal, Darken, Lighten, Contrast, Inversion, and Component. Each of these modes works slightly a little different, it's important to know which one to use for the desired effect outcome.

Lab 2: Chiaroscuro - (Person) | WEEK 4

REFLECTION

In the midst of the exercises, I've learnt to generate and communicate design concepts better. I try to find solutions manually and using them into digital skills much more efficiently.

I was able to think creatively and explore entirely new concepts and compose them into a wide range of conceptual ideas I never had before. It made me strive to learn more about other concepts and explore more on design on a daily basis.

Then, I was taught to use information and communication through the internet to source and gain inspiration, carefully think and select them and apply them to my works to create something more meaningful and that made me more resourceful.
