INSTRUCTIONS

fig 1.0 | Module Information Booklet (MIB)

Quantify raw data and visualize information as a photograph.

PROCESS

I chose 2 packs of skittles to be used in the exercise.

Step 1: Data
Step 2: Sorted
Step 3: Arranged
Step 4: Presented Visually

Step 1 & 2:

fig 1.1 & 1.2

Step 3: & 4:

#1 Running from the circles

fig 1.3

This idea stemmed from the modular grid system and the concept of the circles running away from their identities, wanting to be squares or rectangles.

#2 Fitting In
fig 1.4

The skittles are forming circles in order to make themselves look like they're fitting in to the larger group.

#3 Fireworks

fig 1.5

The arrangement suggests that the different colours classification of the skittles are grouping but still with clear foundation of their classification but in harmony.

#4 The SSSnake | The "S" in Skittles

fig 1.6

This particular process what formed when arranging them in order of their hierarchy and information to be read first in a more fun and free way. This expresses freedom and flow.

FINAL

THE "S" in Skittles

fig 1.7

This particular process what formed when arranging them in order of their hierarchy and information to be read first in a more fun and free way. This expresses freedom and flow.

Symbolism:

The "S" shape symbolises Skittles' identity, reinforcing brand recognition while integrating the product's vibrant colours and flavours into the design. It visually embodies the tagline "Taste the Rainbow."

Design Principles:

  1. Contrast: The bright, colourful Skittles stand out against the plain white background, making the visual appealing and easy to comprehend.
  2. Repetition: The consistent circular shape of the Skittles creates rhythm and unity throughout the arrangement.
  3. Alignment: The curved flow of the "S" ensures that the design feels harmonious and cohesive.
  4. Proximity: The grouping of Skittles by flavour emphasises the connection within each flavor category, facilitating easy recognition.

Information Arrangement:

  1. Categorisation: Skittles are categorised by flavour and colour, creating a clear structure.
  2. Hierarchy: The large "S" form draws attention first, while the smaller labels guide viewers to understand the individual flavours.
  3. Clarity: The simplicity of the design and clear arrangement ensure effective communication of the information.
  4. Color Coding: Colors serve as a key identifier for each flavour, aligning with visual hierarchy and aiding quick recognition.

FEEDBACK

- proceed with either the "S" in skittles or Running from circles.

REFLECTION

This exercise reflects my ability to creatively combine physical elements and digital techniques to communicate design concepts effectively. By arranging the Skittles into an "S" shape, the design highlights the brand identity while using colour coding and clear categorisation to present flavour information in an engaging and organised manner. The thoughtful integration of labeling and emphasis on principles like contrast, alignment, and hierarchy showcases a seamless blend of creativity and technical skills, resulting in a visually compelling and informative outcome.
